Horror Miasma | 100 Years of Horror Movie History (collage video, 2021)

I'm proud to present "Horror Miasma: 100 Years of Horror Movie History", a music video/collage project that took me around a year of work to complete. It's been over a century since what was perhaps the first feature-length horror film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, premiered in 1920.

In celebration of my favorite movie genre's approximate centenary, I spent months and months developing and editing together this music video that chronicles a 100-year history of the genre, from 1920 to 2020, set to the instrumental "Miasma" by the Swedish band Ghost. To see the titles of the films shown in this video, enable subtitles/closed captions and select "English".

Note: I feel it necessary to credit the editor(s) behind the trailer for the 2019 documentary film In Search of Darkness. Not only did that trailer help in part to inspire me to make this music video, but I must admit that I borrowed a moment—the juxtaposition of the "Is he dead?" line from the film Maximum Overdrive (1986) with "Not anymore" from Re-Animator (1985)—from that. That trailer can be viewed here:    • OFFICIAL TRAILER - IN SEARCH OF DARKN...  . Additionally, I believe the documentary itself is available to watch on Shudder and Amazon Prime Video.

Finally, I want to note that, as this video is only a little over five minutes long and as I am a flawed being, I did miss some films. It's been brought to my attention that I left out Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957), which I confess is a most egregious error. I also realized that I somehow forgot to include The Monster Squad (1987), and also overlooked Deep Red (1975), Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979), Motel Hell (1980), The Howling, The Burning (both 1981), The Stuff (1985), Monkey Shines (1988), Rec (2007), Martyrs (2008), V/H/S (2012)... ah well. Maybe I'll update this someday.

Actually, I feel as though I should have given Hellraiser (1987) a larger spotlight too..
